We are proud to present this year's winners:
Award for Excellence
in Undergraduate Teaching in the Office of Undergraduate Studies (UGST) Programs
Eligibility:
- Faculty members and lecturers who have taught at UMD for at least four semesters are eligible. Visiting faculty members are not eligible.
- Students may nominate a teacher from whom they have taken a course in an Undergraduate Studies Program (Academic Achievement Programs, Honors College, College Park Scholars, ROTC, Asian American Studies, Carillon Communities , Letters and Sciences, Southern Management Leadership Program, and UMD Fellows ) are eligible for an Undergraduate Studies Programs Teaching Award.
- The course from one of the above Undergraduate Studies programs would have been offered during any previous semester or during the current semester.
- Previous winners of this award are not eligible for nomination.
Award for Excellence in
Undergraduate Teaching in a
General Education Course
Eligibility:
- Faculty members and lecturers who have taught at UMD for at least four semesters are eligible. Visiting faculty members are not eligible.
- Students may nominate teacher from whom they have taken a General Education course offered during any previous semester or during the current semester. The course will have met a General Education course category. You can determine the General Education category at the UMD Schedule of Classes.
The deadline for submitting nominations was April 1 at 5 p.m. Check back for the announcement about the winners.
Based on undergraduate student nominations, the Office of Undergraduate Studies recognizes two faculty members for excellence in teaching each year: one faculty member teaching in an Undergraduate Studies Program, and one faculty member teaching in a General Education Program. The two recognized faculty will receive $1,000 cash awards and will be acknowledged in a ceremony held at the end of each Spring semester.
About the Awards
The awards are named in honor of Donna B. Hamilton, former Associate Provost for Academic Affairs and Dean for Undergraduate Studies. A Professor Emerita in the English department and previous Associate Dean in the College of Arts and Humanities, Dr. Hamilton was the 2015 recipient of the President's Medal.
