UGST Diversity and Inclusion Retreat /
Jan. 21-22, 2021
Welcome to the annual UGST Diversity & Inclusion Retreat
Effective leadership is central to the management and operation of an entity and can either advance or impede unit goals and objectives. This year’s retreat centers humility and dignity as the foundation for leadership.

1:30-3:30 p.m. - Afternoon session
Work within units to collaboratively create action plans to improve the diversity climate.
As a consultant, Dr. Marilyn Gist has guided numerous organizations and CEOs to greater success. As a speaker, she has clarified the essential behaviors that generate loyal and high-impact teams. And as an educator, she has inspired students to adopt a growth mindset and become exceptional leaders.
With strong leadership experience and deep academic credentials, Dr. Gist has long been fascinated by the quality of relationships that leaders must form to influence others effectively.
On October 22, Harry Alford, Interim Director of the Southern Management Leadership Program, facilitated the "Making Water Visible: Opportunity for Meaningful Change" workshop for the Office of Undergraduate Studies. He will build upon the Fall presentation and previous design thinking exercises to identify the most important “sails” and “anchors” and to create action plans to improve the diversity climate within our programs.
