Ways to Support

Giving

Founded in 1964, the Gamma of Maryland Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa’s mission is to recognize the university’s highest-achieving students in the liberal arts and sciences and to set them up to become leaders in their fields. We strive for diversity and inclusion among our members, which means refusing to charge a chapter fee and providing support to students for whom financial need is a barrier to membership. The University of Maryland, College Park generously pays $45 of every inductee’s one-time, life-time membership in Phi Beta Kappa, but the chapter would like to help those students who cannot afford the remaining $40 fee.

For as little as $40, you can help cover the cost of a newly inducted student, ensuring that they have access to the Phi Beta Kappa experiences and networks that open doors to lifelong opportunities, including a competitive edge in the marketplace. Donations to our chapter will help us to include more students and are greatly appreciated. Any amount counts! Help us succeed in our mission, by clicking the button below.

Laura G. Slavin Memorial Fund

For many years our chapter’s coordinator was Laura Slavin. In addition to earning a Bachelor’s and two Master’s degrees from the University of Maryland, College Park, Laura worked tirelessly for the Office of Undergraduate Studies and for our Phi Beta Kappa inductees and members. Each year she organized the Spring Induction Ceremony and upon her death she endowed a fund to support the chapter in hosting that ceremony going forward. We are deeply grateful for this endowment and for all of Laura’s work. If you would like to contribute to the Laura G. Slavin Memorial Fund, which helps us to host the induction program and reception, as well as purchase certificates for inductees and Phi Beta Kappa pins for our Junior and Senior Award winners, click on the button below. Any amount helps!
